ALEXIS L. CHAUCHOIS

Biography

Originally from Northern France, Alexis Chauchois boasts a unique academic journey, marked by the attainment of a Ph.D. in Civil Engineering from the University of Artois and a Ph.D. in French and Francophone Literature from Florida State University.

His trajectory is as diverse as it is international. For several years, Alexis served as a professor of civil engineering, sharing his expertise at the University of Artois in Bethune (France) and Korea University in Seoul (South Korea). Driven by his passion for literature, alongside his career, he returned to university to pursue studies in literature and linguistics at Sorbonne-Nouvelle, Paris 3. He later joined the Department of Modern Languages and Linguistics at Florida State University to pursue his doctorate, focusing on the works of Louis-Ferdinand Céline.

Since 2021, Alexis has held the position of Assistant Professor of French and French and Francophone Literature at Mercer University in Georgia, United States. Alexis’s specialization spans modern French and Francophone literature and culture from the 19th to the 21st century, employing an interdisciplinary approach that blends fields such as medicine, history, anthropology, music, and science. With a background in both scientific and literary disciplines, he is drawn to writers with diverse facets and is fascinated by the mechanics of the text. As the author of articles on figures like Louis-Ferdinand Céline, Makenzie Orcel, Jean-Claude Charles, Michel Houellebecq, and Michaël Ferrier, Alexis’s recent research focuses particularly on exploring the representation of memory work in Ferrier’s works.

Alexis teaches French language and Francophone culture at both beginner and advanced levels. He has specifically developed courses on the history of French cinema, medicine and literature, short stories from the 19th century to the present day, the art of French cuisine, and more.
